I’m writing this from a cafe in Brooklyn and it’s a full summer’s day outside and a man has already tried to call me over to his car so I’m actually feeling pretty chipper. This cafe in crown heights is one I’ve been to many times and everything here is exactly the same as I left it which is not something I can say for my personal life and theyre blasting cumbia and it’s so full in here that the transmasc next to me is basically sitting on my lap but we’re both pretending not to notice and no I cannot focus on writing this at all but my fucking god am I happy to be here and not in a blustery derelict warehouse cum coffee shop in Hackney Wick listening to a poolside remix of Karma Police.

I’m back selecting at Yalla! tonight for their YALLAWEEN special at The Deep End in Ridgewood. Yes that’s tonight as in in a few hours. Ok good

And then on Saturday I am teaming up with

Roshan Abraham

my brother and comrade in being really good at writing but somehow just that bit better at being a chronic depressive? But truly I love Roshan he reminds me of all extremely gruff comedians or a television host from the apocalypse. he’s been consistently creating and curating beautiful events for writers and readers in Brooklyn for like, a decade, and I’ve been at a lot of them over the years reading this and that and generally being unwell in public here and there and Roshan would grunt and I would grunt back in British and we sort of knew that we got it.

So when Roshan asked me to be part of his world building writing workshop series: OPEN WORLD I said sure if you host it with me, and so that’s what we’re doing on November 2nd from 3-5pm which is Día de los Muertos although Roshan and I, infidels that we are, did not know that when we decided to theme our workshop around grief.

Writing Grief Worlds will include some somatic grief work and release, writing and communal dreaming around grief as a place we have to keep visiting, asking what would a world that supported us in doing that look like and how do we make it there?
