hello cuties and happy silent sunday to you. i’m simply popping in to invite you all to a special event i’m hosting in london on july 2nd called misery movies <3
since 2018, myself and some delightful others have run a mental health collective and sober clubnight for QTIBIPOC called misery, which i’m starting to realise is my first born child, in as much as no, no, i don’t regret it! anyway, there’s truly lots to be said about that and god knows it will be said but not right now love i’m a sleepy-bo-peep.
right now, i wanna say if you’re in london you should come hang at this lovely thing! and if you’re not in london you should tell someone you know in london to come!
paid subscribers: i haven’t figured out a way to adequately express my gratitude for you yet but i would like to give you free tickets to this! which is kind of fake because any gay who wants to come to a misery thing for free always can but haha i would love to give you or someone you like free tickets to this - just send me the names and i’ll put them on the guest list +1.
the rest of you can:
misery movies is an afternoon of community and filmmaking about madness, nature and QTIBPOC futures! we’ll be taking a stroll through each of the seasons by way of a very special programme of hand-picked shorts by queer UK-based filmmakers of the global majority asking important questions about rest, right of way and resilience.
we will also be screening some of the archive films made during our monthly misery medicine gatherings that started in february 2022, at which QTIBPOC are invited to learn how to make friends with and medicine from the plants that grow freely in london’s public spaces <3 these films are packed with beauty & wisdom!!
the films will run for about an hour, after which there will be a q&a with some of the filmmakers and some of the community herbalists featured in the films (chaired by me so may the great mother have mercy on us all!!)
i reeaaalllly love the people who make something like misery possible, especially the misery medicine herbalists and facilitators, and all nature guides everywhere specialising in helping us who are multiply estranged, find our way home through plants and other more-than-human life. the whole point of this event is to celebrate them - the light-treaders, the generous lovers, the holders of mysterious gifts. also, it would be so nice to meet some of you!
anyone not in ldn but curious, holla me and i can send you some of the films :p byee
